CRÈME DE LA CRÈME Grand Wedding Showcase is an annual bridal event that brings together the top industry experts in the most opulent venue in Vancouver, Fairmont Hotel Vancouver. It is an event that brides-to-be look forward to every year. An event that raises the bar in artistry and caters to the discerning bride with exquisite one of a kind taste.
With this year’s theme – Avant-Guarde, expect to be swept away to another world full of infinite possibilities, trend-setting decor and design, and decadent treats.
Having attended this event several times myself, I can see how overwhelming it can be for a bride-to-be. Therefore, I have created a guide to help you thoroughly immerse yourself in this experience.
Bring your Bestie
In all honesty, I have often seen large groups at this event and notice the bride-to-be being pulled in opposite directions by her bridal party (with the best intentions of course!). Typing this stresses me out, so imagine it happening in person! If you want to really enjoy this event and take your time, select 1-2 besties top to join you. Besides, pre-wedding is so busy with many events that you will enjoy having one-on-one time with your closest friend!
Purchasing Tickets
If you haven’t already purchased your tickets, do so immediately before they are sold out. If you plan to attend next year, follow @countdownevents to be the first to know of early bird ticket sales. Tickets can be purchased here.
Fuel Up in Style
Do not go on an empty stomach. There are so many delicious treats and drinks available that you will be tempted to try everything if you haven’t already eaten which will result in a sugar crash, or if you are like me: sweet-toothed with a sensitive stomach, you will not feel great by the end. I suggest making it a full day of luxury and pampering by going out for a delicious breakfast pre-show.
Here are a few of my personal faves:
Notch8 Restaurant, Fairmont Hotel Vancouver Fairmont
A must try:
Cornbread Hotcake | Mascarpone mousse, peaches, berries, almonds, birch syrup
The Lillooet Daisy | Zubrówka, Fresh Lemon, Blackberry Puree, Elderflower Liqueur
Botanist, Fairmont Pacific Rim
A must try:
Avocado Toast | Grilled sourdough, poached eggs, watercress
Botanist Benedict | Crab, avocado, hollandaise, crispy potatoes
Botanist Bellini | Gin, lemon, sparkling wine, peach sorbet
Honey Salt, Parq Vancouver
A must try:
Honey Salt Breakfast Galette | Scrambled eggs, Berkshire ham, spinach, mushrooms & gruyère cheese
Citrus Glow Mimosa | Chanoine champagne, citrus glow juice
Note: Call ahead and make a reservation so you do not have to wait in line.
Dress Chic but Comfortable
This is a luxurious event with an elite group in attendance, so dress in style but keep comfort in mind. There is quite a bit of walking and I have seen on one too many counts ladies in high heels searching for somewhere to sit due to sore feet. I have even experienced this first hand myself. I suggest a heel no higher than 2 inches. But if you live in heels and they are an extension of you – go for it!
Bring a small purse so you aren’t lugging around a heavy bag all day. My suggestion would be a light layer sweater that is easy to take off if needed. Remember to drop off your jacket at coat check!
Outfit examples perfect for the event:
Valet-it!
Yes, if you are driving – just valet. It is downtown after all and driving around in circles trying to find parking on a weekend is not what I call fun. Don’t add any unneeded stress and keep it simple – the Fairmont has wonderful valet service. (Remember to bring cash to also give a tip!) If you prefer to not drive, skytrain is super easy, get off at the Burrard station and it is a less than 5 min walk.
Prepare, prepare!
If you are planning your wedding or about to start, take a look at the vendors that will be in attendance to narrow down which you absolutely need to speak to. There is quite a bit of activity with many vendors in attendance so it is very easy to miss one or forget to visit a specific booth.
No need to bring a pen and paper – after all, we do live in the age of technology. Take a look at the exhibitor list and create a list in your phone of the ones that are a must to stop by with a list of questions you need to ask each vendor. This way you are well prepared and do not have to worry about forgetting to ask an important question.
Remember to grab a business card for those that you intend to contact post-show. You can also simply take a picture of the business card and then type a note on the picture to remind yourself of any key info. Also, take time after visiting each booth to type notes to remember from your conversation.
Be on Time!
In my opinion, It is best to arrive right when the doors open at 11:00 am. The crowds aren’t as bad so you have more of a chance to speak to vendors one-on-one. Learn the layout of the ballrooms and split it into 2. Work your way towards the ballroom where the fashion show will be. The fashion show starts at 1:00 pm so you want to be in that area to select your seats by 12:45 pm. I prefer to be front row towards the end of the runway where the photographers will be stationed. I just love watching the entire model walk but especially the stance at the end for the photographers. This is the best spot to take pictures of gowns you want to try yourself when visiting the bridal boutique. Once the fashion show is over, then head over to the other ballroom you haven’t yet visited. Remember to take pictures of any details that inspire you. Who doesn’t love going through their camera roll post-event and reliving everything again!
