In this social media world, we often lose sight of what is truly important – honest hearted human connections.
During my chat with Danielle Wiebe, Founder of Business Babes Collective (which has many chapters in different cities), something she said struck a chord:
“Social media is amazing…Use social media to meet people, but then take those relationships offline; whether that’s meeting for coffee or have a phone conversation – that’s where opportunities will come from!”
I feel that with the amount of time spent behind the screen, scrolling through social media – sometimes viewing life from the sidelines, we can get into a bad habit of becoming closed off from connecting with people. It can be nerve wracking meeting new people, networking or asking to collaborate – trust me, I know! But that is how you grow. You never know what can come from those connections, whether it be true friendships or support in growing your business.
I had recently experienced this first hand. Being an introvert at heart, reaching out to strangers was not something I was keen on doing. But I forced myself to step outside my comfort zone and asked someone I had been following for some time to meet for coffee. I had all this negative self-talk in my head as to why I probably wouldn’t get a response or maybe even get a no. But boy was I wrong. It turned out to be an amazing coffee date and a connection that I am so happy to have made – which may turn into a collaboration down the road!
So I am 150% in agreement with Danielle’s advice – reach out to those that you follow that inspire you or that you enjoy what they put out in the world and see what comes from it! (And don’t forget to follow up if it’s important to you!)
