My menstrual cycle was not something I was educated about growing up. It just wasn’t a thing we “talked” about, my mother and I.
I remember I was in grade 6 or 7 hearing my friends getting their menstrual cycle and wished I would get it too because then I would be grown up and feel included. And out of no where a few months later, it showed up in computer class while I was wearing white pants.
I am just so thankful it wasn’t a bad experience, fortunately I did not get any on my pants and my friend had an extra pad for me to use.
From that point on, we didn’t really talk about our periods aside from complaining about the cramps we got.
I didn’t know what actually happened during my period never mind the rest of the cycle. And I had no clue about pads, tampons, hormones, basically everything that came along with our cycles.
I learned as I went. I would get tips here and there about pads, how to manage cramps, how to insert a tampon properly, and how the pill would help with my hormonal breakouts. All of which were helpful but did not really give me any insight into what was happening in my own body and why.
Now I am 37, and finally after 25 years of having my cycle, have a better understanding of it. And that is thanks to Nicole Jardim, The Period Girl. When I came across your profile on Instagram, I scrolled and scrolled and was fascinated by what actually happens in our bodies.
So obviously, I had to chat with her more and invited her on the show as a guest – and it was one of my favorite chats ever!
Did you know your menstrual cycle actually has 4 phases? And it isn’t all within that time you have your actual period. Nicole goes into detail as to exactly what happens from start to end of our cycle and what each phase includes. It’s remarkable what happens in our bodies that we are so unaware of, it’s no wonder we need rest! hahah
My main question was how can we best use each phase of our cycle to set us up for success in our business. When should you not take any outward facing engagements. When should you focus on creativity, and when should you plan to make decisions.
It’s time. Grab yourself a cup of organic tea and get comfy. This is a great dive into our cycles and I hope you learn as much as I did. Make sure to also check out Nicole’s new book. It is everything you need to know about your cycle, perfectly written.
